I know it’s been a while since I last posted here (kind of went through a dry period of figuring what to post and such, along with some real life stuff happening too) but I figured why not share some additional items showing that I’m more than just crossplay.
This here is the costume that started it all in terms of cosplaying in general, Greed from Full Metal Alchemist (back when the manga was still going on and the anime was making its first run in the US). The story behind this costume was that me and a few of my friends were looking to do a skit for the Masquerade at Fanime 2006 (2005 was my first Fanime, but my time was pretty limited since it was part of a High School anime club trip. But my Fanime stories can be placed a little on hold since this is more for the cosplay costume) and our skit writer thought it would be a good idea for me to cosplay Greed (I was completely new to cosplay, but have been interested to do it for awhile) since it wasn’t too hard to do. My sister pretty much helped out with the two items that had to be done (removing the sleeves from a cheap plain black shirt, creating the fur-like collar for the vest, creating the vest by altering a woman’s blouse).
As for the photos, the top two photos are from Fanime 2006 (left photo is with my friend SilverUnicorn297 cosplaying Envy, who I first met here and ended up becoming good friends with) (right photo is during the Masquerade with my friends from the skit *Bayley as Lust, Cat as Envy, Caroline as Edward Elric*). The bottom two photos are from Fanime 2007 (the right photo is with my friend SilverUnicorn297, who dressed as Psiren). Quick note, I actually forgot to pack the armbands for Greed in 2007, which explains the lack of them for that year despite having them for 2006.
Fanime 2012, not really much I can say here except that I had SOOOOO much fun. I felt really good with how well my crossplay went and did show how far I’ve come from the beginning. With all the tips, tricks, methods that I’ve seen and through trial and error, I just felt that this helped add to making my time at the con so much more enjoyable. I wanted to give a special shout-out to my makeup artist, Rubymoonthe3rd for being there and being so supportive, she’s the one that helped me be more open with crossplay.
As for the actual costume info, I went as Black Canary (halter one-piece version) and it was a little tricky to come up with (the one piece being the toughest thing due to trying to find the best one *luckily found online* after trying different items), but it worked well along with a few new items (the bodysuit I got after Yaoicon since this was more solid and covered a little more than that one, wig was purchased from Fantasy Sheep).
Photo thanks credits I can list here (Excluding the first one since that was from my camera): Middle Row Left - Cindy Chiu Middle Row Right - OniCourseMusha Lower Row Left - Remi
The second set of Kitana photos from Yaoicon 2011, taken by one of my friends, Heulangel. I liked how the photos came out and really do thank her for taking the time to take the photos ^_^.
Yaoicon 2011, I had alot of fun with this despite a small issue or two (my old car was having starter issues which created a situation the day before I crossplayed). Dressed up as Kitana from Mortal Kombat (her Ultimate MK3 outfit). Not really much that I can say on this one just because I just had fun with this one and went over well at Yaoicon.
Costume was purchased over at Human_Go Costume Cosplay. As for photos, I’m actually going to try something a little different. Since I was able to find multiple good photos, I’m going to do two separate posts of the Kitana costume so I can show both sets of photos. The 1st set of photos were taken by Eurobeat King and I thank him for the photos ^_^.
Jumping over to 2011 and things start getting a little better. Fanime 2011 I ended up going with a somewhat simple costume and a character that I have had some interest in, Zatanna. This costume plus the surprising turnout of the Marvel/DC Universe gathering were enjoyable positives of the con and were able to counteract the few bad things that came about (it started to rain the moment our gathering ended, back of my ankles were jacked up from the shoes *this is before I learned about heel guards that prevents those kind of things happening*).
Not much of an explanation this time, costume composed of found items (tailcoat the trickiest to find) and still love the costume.
2010 is one that is a little hard to explain. I did crossplay for that year, but…… the pictures of the costume didn’t turn out too great for both cons and trying to get the costume to work best was a hard challenge. I was originally going to skip past that year to go into 2011, but I felt there is probably a decent shot or two in here somewhere. There is some hope that I will consider doing the costume again with some little tricks here and there that I’ve tried/picked up since then for potentially better results.
With the long explanation done, Fanime and Yaoicon 2010 were the two cons that I decided to do my crossplay of Chun-Li’s alternate costume one from Street Fighter 4. Despite the photo and costume difficulties, I have a soft spot for the costume since I love Chun-Li and there were some nice moments that came about from this (making it on to Stage Zero at Fanime 2010 and getting a photo with Reuben Langdon *Ken’s VA for SF4, Dante’s VA for the Devil May Cry games and Marvel vs Capcom 3/Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Masamune Date’s VA for Sengoku Basara 3, just to name a few roles*, meeting Reipoker in person)
Thanks goes to Heulangel for the dress, obi, and bracelets. Shots are from Yaoicon 2010 (sorry for the dark shots, this was during the evening inside and forgot to set the flash)
Taking some time to go a little retro to look back at some older crossplay costumes, starting at the beginning at Fanime 2009.
This was a total beginners costume since this is before I was able to get some of my “talents”, so think of this as my “flat chested” days, also the boots were an audible since my feet were not ready for heels.
As for the costume itself, this is a bit of a reaper look that was thought up of for Jenny. I do thank Winter Wish Cosplay Photography for being such a good sport and providing some good photos, along with Heulangel for the cloak, scythe and choker (this may be hard to see in the photos) commissions.
A little sneak preview/”Work In Progress” of a costume I am working on for Fanime 2013. It’s a bit of a combination of a costume from a well known character and using items from my female OC self/persona, the lovely Jennifer Matsumoto.
