reasons why this is the most important show on television
reasons why this is the most important show on television
A few pics from last week, testing out some things for crossplay. Was trying out a new lipstick, lip gloss and lip brush, wanting to take the result shots to see how it turned out. I know I didn’t do anything additional to my face but this was just a lip test since I actually haven’t done my own makeup before so I went into this a little nervous.
Lipstick = MAC (Brave Red)
Lip Gloss = Buxom (Samantha)
Lip Brush = Just a basic brush, ended up buying a better brush from MAC today
From left to right
1st row: Plain nothing on / lipstick only / lipstick + lip gloss
2nd row: Alternate shots of lipstick + lipgloss
This is my nephew. Just in case it escaped your attention, he is dressed as Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Yesterday I was out for lunch with some of my family, including my nephew who I hadn’t seen for a few months. He was very excited to see me and I was him.
As soon as we sat in the restaurant, he started pulling out some princess figurines (which he had amusingly named Rihanna and Gaga), and he was explaining to me how beautiful they were. He told me he wished he could be as beautiful as them even though he was a boy.
This kind of comment was nothing new for him.
After we all started eating, I noticed he was facing away from us. He turned around with a tear rolling down his cheek and refused to say what was wrong. This was very out of character for him. He was usually so attention seeking and theatrical, and incredibly intelligent for his age.
After a while he put his head into his arms on the table and started crying a lot more. I leaned into him and asked what was wrong again.
He whispered really quietly to me “I don’t want to be weird.”
I responded to him saying “Weird? I’m weird. Weird is good, weird is different!”
"But I don’t want to be different, it’s wrong," he replied through tear-stained fingers.
Angry, I started “Let me tell you what’s wrong. You are five years old and people are already telling you what you should and shouldn’t say. Or what you should and shouldn’t wear. You’re crying because somebody decided what boys are supposed to do and what girls are supposed to do, and nobody should differ from that. Well, let me tell you a little something about normal…
It used to be normal to laugh at people because they had different coloured skin. It used to be normal to bully somebody if they were a boy and they loved another boy, or a girl who loved another girl. It used to be normal to pick on someone for being too fat or too skinny. It used to be normal to pick on different, and the worst part is that a lot of that stuff is still going on.
Why would you want to be normal, you’re extraordinary! If anybody tells you that you can’t be a beautiful princess, you put on that fucking dress because you are beautiful and you are a little weird, but nobody normal ever made a fucking bit of difference in the world. You wear whatever the hell you want, and like whatever the hell you like, because it’s people like you that are going to make a real, lasting change.
The world needs a lot more weird and a lot less normal.”
And he understood exactly what I meant. He lunged in for a hug and kissed me on the cheek before uttering under his breath “What does ‘fucking’ mean?”
I love that kid more than I’ve ever loved anything. Don’t make his generation fight our battles.
Shaming of every variety needs to end now, we should be celebrating different, not condemning it. Not just for society as it is now, but for society as it will be.
How many more tears do we need our children to cry?
“Don’t make his generation fight our battles.”
this is like the realist shit ever
NIGHTGIRL AND POWERWING.
I think Dick is enjoying Peeg’s costume a little too much.
I think this works for me. =)
This is the best.
If you don’t like it, you can go fuck yourself.
People who do not think this is AWESOME are wrong <3
I thought people might get a kick out of this piece, especially of Karen’s Nightwing look. :D
i am super in love with that Karen.
Dick just loves showing off his newly-shaved legs.
i suddenly understand why my grandfather/grandmother argued over how to eat sushi to me
IN RESPONSE TO THIS POST: http://wow-lawbringer.blogspot.com/2013/09/my-life-as-villain-of-cosplay.html
What if I told you those judgmental Doctor Who cosplayers were plants? That Syfy told them they needed to cause drama with some of the cast so it would be a more interesting…
Take a lesson, kids: this is how NOT to respond to something said about you on the internet, true or false, right or wrong.
Going on the defensive means you have something to defend. Lack of rebuttal, ploys for sympathy, saying, “I was gonna let it go, but I just can’t” … all the while, missing the original point (which in this case included some very pointed criticism of the entire debacle, none of which is addressed here).
I think what killed it dead was when one of the so called “victims” proclaimed that Stephen Moffat would be ashamed these Doctor Who girls only went to “one convention a year.” How many of you can barely make it to one convention a year? How many of you work shit jobs day in, day out, for shit pay, dreaming of that one tiny weekend where you and your friends can enjoy time together in your chosen fandom?
The entitlement of the asshole in question … you *dare* make people feel ashamed that they can’t afford to globetrot constantly to go to conventions? No fan should do that to another. No one who is *truly* part of a community should ever feel the need to make someone hurt because they like so many people are just fighting to get by from paycheck to paycheck. The fact they took the time and effort to make it to even one convention in the face of all that tells me just who exactly should be ashamed here.
Should be, but isn’t. You didn’t dig this hole, Chloe, but you sure are determined to see how close to China you can get …
Sorry, I lost the lesson in the sea of hypocrisy and double standards.
I’m seeing a lot of people responding to the most recent Heroes of Cosplay post in defense of the show saying that the show should be allowed to compete in whatever contest they like and that they still had to pay their own way to conventions.
The problem is that that’s NOT the issue we’re…
Furthermore, sure, it’s to be expected that reality shows pick the most dramatic people, edit things to make things seem more dramatic, etc. But to outright manipulate the way things ACTUALLY function is disgusting. Each of the conventions that the show attended had their cosplay staff get asked to completely alter the way their shows function solely for the sake of the show, and in the case of Anime Matsuri, if I understand my friends who know the people who run the cosplay show correctly, many staff members were trying to fight the ridiculous changes that would suddenly give TV show members an unfair advantage or have other cosplayers at the last minute not participate in the masquarade, but were extremely stressed, saddened, and angered when there was nothing they could do about it. From personal knowledge and experience not only of cosplay and cosplayers but also of how conventions fundamentally function, as well as all the first-person accounts coming about about how people were treated and how shows were crazy manipulated, I also agree - Cons should not accept the producers of this show again, people should not participate, and we should not watch. Good riddance, SyFy.
Normally I like the two of you but this is not the right approach and going to disagree. This pretty much makes ALL parties look bad. This is turning into one whole Marvel Civil War (minus the whole registration act)
